OD And Ebow - Beat Stampeed 2
This is a beat tape from 1995 made by two great producers, Omid (Beneath The Surface) and Ebow (CVE, Legion). It's only 6 beats total but it's a nice little release to listen and zone to and quite a hard to find one as well.
Here
6 Untitled tracks.

Zest The Smoker - The Smoker's Vault LP
The new release from (vulgar) is finally here!
Zest The Smoker - The Smoker's Vault LP is limited to 100 copies.
It features production by Cough-It-Up (Camp Crystal Lake), Oddzilla (Zest himself), Barry Bones/DJ Roe, Persevere (Sub Contents) and Architecht (ten thousand projects including Homeliss Derilex, Executive Lounge, etc.).
Zest is a veteran MC from San Jose who's been featured on numerous Bay Area classics (Peanut Butter Wolf's "My Vinyl Weighs A Ton", Dave Dub's "The Treatment", both on Stones Throw for instance). He's also part of the Camp Crystal Lake aka Camp Crypt collective.
This is 1996-2002 material.
On the A side you got the tracks off the Death... At 27 album that's not on the Murder vinyl EP, and on the flipside a selection from the Smoker Filez cd compilation, including some stuff that also were on the 3 Face the Shape Shifter demo (Puff Puff, Macadamian, etc.).
There's video for Micalina and another one should drop soon:
Thanks by advance to everyone who supports. This is much, much appreciated!

Awkward Why? - Six Bubbles
I know, this album (from 1998) is floating on the internet for a while already and judging his discogs page already have a little following, but as far as I'm concerned, I just discovered it thanks to Kaliyuga Pro a couple of weeks ago and it's been on rotation ever since.
Awkward Why? is a group from Toronto, comprised of Bookworm, J-StaRRRrrr!!! and Psy, Bookworm producing most of it. The band later united with another one called Dynasty and together they formed the supergroup Oddities which got signed on Battle Axe in the early 00es.
In short, the production work here is beautifully done and many loops will stuck with you for a while, and the emceeing/writing part is definitely on par. It's one of those albums you're hope to stumble on while meticulously going through a whole obscure crew's discography, one that you know you'll come back to and listen many times more.
Of course there's more Oddities material, some of it already been upped on Ghetto Tyylit years ago and I'll soon put again the rarest stuff on the blog (while the new material is still easily available), but this one really stood out for me. What you got here is KP's rip, so thanks to him for taking the time to do it. If you never heard it, give it a try.

Sidus Idiom - Moments Til Ruin
As requested by Jibs over at Thisisforthehustlers, here's Sidus Idiom aka Tapemastah Steph's Moments Til Ruin, an odd but definitely interesting tape blending raps, acoustic guitar, instrumentals, weird skits... Steph, then located in San Jose and collaborating with all the good people from Sub Contents to PBW, was really pushing the envelope on this one and wasn't afraid of trying new stuff.
You can note the presence of "Unrented Space" also on the Outerbodied compilation but credited as Members Of Accuracy also.
In another news the next vinyl release from the label is coming soon (sept/oct). Expect a solid compilation from an underrated SJ artist, filled with 1996-2002 materials. More info soon!

The Library Crew - Bibliotechnitians Vol.1
This is the Library Crew cassette, an old project from 1997 that consisted of Subtitle, Memorex, Premonition and the Lexicon guys.
Here's What Subtitle said about it in an interview for Hiphopcore.net a few years ago:
"That started when we were in high school. That was Lexicon (which is Oak and Nick Fury), Number Crunchers (myself and DJ Memorex), Premonition, Dramatic, Recon and this dude C-Trouble, whom I think he's doing porn or something right now. There was also lots of friends walking in and out of the group… But it all started when we were in Oxnard and every Friday we'd all go to Santa Barbara to freestyle on Mums The Word's show. He had this show at this radio station at the UCSB (the Santa Barbara college) that everybody went to, like the Project Blowed, KanKick, CDP and all those dudes… We would all roll out there, we were all real young and we all ended up meeting up. We kicked it a little bit and got along so we did songs and ended up calling ourself a crew. I had the name in my head 'cause I worked at the library at my high school at the time so I said : "Let's just call it the Library crew". We made a cassette "Bibliotechnicians Vol. 1" in 1997.
There was also a group in the Library called Rector Set, that was me and Scribble, but we never recorded any song because Scribble was a dick head at the time. Matter of fact, when we did "Bibliotechnicians", we had left him, we didn't even tell him we were going to record the project… which is some dick-head-shit. I just called him when I got home to play him some songs over the phone and he just hung up on my face of course. Library went on about 3 years. We did some shows and were going to work on more material but then everybody started moving further away… I moved out to L.A., Lexicon moved out to L.A., Premonition and Dramatic would come to hang out but you wouldn't hear from the other dudes. Memorex moved out to L.A. and we would hang out a bit but he was doing other stuff, he wasn't deejaying as much. "

U.S.F. - Unstoppable Force EP
There's a couple of influential underground hip hop acts from there, some of them sharing members with hardcore bands like Spazz or Plutocracy. So it's not a total surprise if that EP was released in 2001 on a hardcore-centered label, Family Of Resistance.
USF stands for United Sicko Foundation or Unstoppable Force and includes, amongst others, members Stinkweed (RIP, also part of 152 other Bay Area bands) and DJ Eons One, who produced some of the cuts.
If you like this EP don't forget to check the post-mortem Stinkweed Bandcamp put together by Eons, there's most of his rap-related work for free download. Some of the Shed Dwellaz material has been recently reissued by Ormolycka on cassette btw.

SFSM - Fountains And Raps
This is a rather confidential SFSM album, courtesy of Kaliyuga Pro.. I don't even have a visual for this so I used this visual borrowed to Ghetto Tyylit which mentions it (that "Street Rockers" album is next btw). Not even sure if it was cassette or cd.
While we're talking SFSM prepare for a vinyl reissue of Word Of Mouth released by Chaz by the end of the year also.
And while we're talking vinyl reissue, hope everybody got his copy of The Nonce' "1990" or more surprisingly the picture disc reissue of Living Legends' Almost Famous.
Finally, prepare for a brand new vinyl release by yours truly, probably for this fall.
Z-Man's 4 Hours of Sleep is now available at VINYLResistance (Geneva, Switzerland), Park Blvd Records (Oakland, CA.), HHV and Vinyl-Digital (Germany) and finally our Bandcamp and BigCartel.

The Jedeyes - Experiment 31
Another rather confidential group from San Jose (yes, lots of Zae Town material on this blog.. one of the most under-appreciated / underrated hip hop scene that is).
They share a member in Yota One with Kosmic Four. The rest of the crew member list is rather vague: depending on if you check this vinyl LP or their other release, the "It's Not What You Think!!!" cassette, there's a bunch of Star Wars-derivative pseudos mentioned as part of the group, and it's different on each album... so, hard to tell who are the Jedeyes really.
Both albums share a couple of tracks, although the vinyl is not just a selection from the longer cassette, it has some unreleased tracks as well, such as the opener "Jedeye Philosophy".
Musically the album is rather refreshing, jumping from classic straight boom bap numbers to a couple of more experimental tracks here and there and a large array of influences (dub, Sun Ra...). There's something for everyone in there. Have a listen!

Following my recent post of The Hermits Cave, KP decided to re-rip his copy of Affirmative Action, another rare tape of The Cuf from 1997.
A previous rip was made available years ago on Ghetto Tyylit but he felt it needed a better quality one. So enjoy!

Justin Morales - S/T
Straight up, with its first cassette-only album, San Jose-native Justin Morales won at least (and by large) the coolest/most honest/wtf/crevest (for Subtitle relatives) cover award.
It might seems a weird choice in an era where image is everything and your place on the hip hop credibility scale dictates how much success you might have but here it is. You can't get much realer than this, don't you?
Now you know exactly what to expect: raw, honest hip hop made with small equipment. And frankly the result is pretty nice and refreshing.
I don't know much about Justin other than this tape is the first of 3 albums, it was probably released through Atak in the late 90es although I don't know for sure. And the guy got a group called Tech Lab with BC Ghost and got featured on a finnish crew/ compilation, Blue Phantoms Network (-I told you before, fins know their westcoast underground better than you and me). Speaking of that, this rip was brought you by the one and only, Kaliyuga Pro from Helsinki.

Dorn The Overseer - California Dream EP
I didn't know the guy and copped this (only?) EP, released in 2004, by sheer curiosity.
As far as I know he's from Ventura or somewhere in the LA area and the label, Abstrakt Konfusion, seemed to group a couple of guys from there (Venomous Voices, High Dro, DJ AK... none of them are familiar but they apparently got a batch of others cd releases as well).
So the obvious appealing factor is the presence of Lootpack members on a track, "Relic": production by Madlib and featuring DJ Romes as well as another MC called Ayol. The track is alright, but nothing too crazy. I'm more into the flip side: "Respect" with its nice ATCQ sample and the super funky "Use Your Brain". Even Dorn seem more comfortable with his flow on this type of productions than on the anti wack mcs numbers of the A side.

Buck 65 - Weirdo Magnet (Cassette Version)
This is a new rip from my og cassette copies.
The cd version of Weirdo Magnet released by Warner in 2002 is quite different than the original cassettes (yeah, the album was released on 2 cassettes) from 1996.
Tracklist is completely different, from 40 to 23 tracks (to fit the new format), the cassette total length time is a little bit more than 2 hours, and the cd is 50 minutes. Not only there's tracks missing but weirdly enough there's a good portion of the cd tracks that are not on the original cassettes: the intro for instance, or the track with Sixtoo... Those are pretty good tracks too though.
Also, most importantly, it seems that all the rapping parts have been re-done by Buck. It's pretty obvious on Year Zero for example, you definitely hear the more uptempo style of the Stinkin Rich era on the tape as the cd version is the more "grown-up", slower and deeper voice of Buck.
Obviously the mixing has been redone too and sounds better on the reissue.
But what happened to that missing hour of OG Buck 65 then?
After a long search on slsk years ago I finally found a rip of the cassette but the quality wasn't that good: the dub was overpitched, bitrate was meh and last track was missing.
More recently I've been able to get og copies of the cassettes (without having to put my house for sale, right discogs?). Now here's the dub off it. Enjoy!

DJ RasCue / Eb.F Interview // Westakoasta website
DJ Rascue from Various Blends recently posted on the comment section of this site.
We agreed to do a mail interview and I just posted it on this new Westakoasta site -which is basically a tumblr with some of the interviews I did in the past with hip hop artists, plus new ones.
Learn more about C.O.D., the pre-Hobo Junction/ Skhool Yard/ VB crew, what causes Rasco to leave for a solo career, how Peanut Butter Wolf got his name, why there's an unreleased VB album filled with dope collabos and all the unreleased material that awaits to be heard:
In another news, we still got some copies of this amaaaaazing Z-Man "4 Hours of Sleep" vinyl reissue here. Every cent will go on the next vinyl release.
Thanks a lot to those who already purchased!

Z-Man - 4 Hours Of Sleep (Ltd ed. LP)
Very proud to announce the vinyl reissue of this Bay Area classic 4-track album on my one-man label.
It was his second solo effort, originally made in 98, then released in 99 as handmade cassettes. Atak later made a small cd-r rerun of these.
It's considered by most his best, and it's one my favorite rap album ever.
Productions are handled 3/4 by Slim Goodworth of 99th Demention and 1/4 by Vrse Murphy of Sacred Hoop.
There's only 200 copies of this, and it comes with an A4 insert incl. an interview with Z about the making of 4 Hours.
If you're not familiar with it, let's say it's completely raw, eccentric, delirious.. Super dope. There's a couple of tracks' chorus and lines that will stuck in your head for the rest of your life.
The vinyl version is short of 3 tracks compared to the cassette version due to lack of space.
You can listen and buy it:

Masters Of The Universe - Classics EP
That's a strange choice of name for that EP that could be renamed "6 random tracks from the MOTU back-catalogue (including 3 freestyles)".
See, the freestyles are ok, the Matrix (Odessa Kane's old alias) track is very good, then the 2 tracks left are off 2 great albums by MOTU members (12 Kommandments and Universe Horror Nites).
So, not reaally your typical 'classics' compilation but more of a nice little EP reprinted on cd-r by Orko a few years ago.
It's worth mentioning that this was previously available for download on Ghetto Tyylit as "Innercity Productions EP". It was the same tracks but on one file of about 30 minutes.
Inner City Productions is actually the person credited for the productions on my cd-r.
No relation, I've recently heard that HHV in Germany is planning to reissue the first two Grouch's albums on double vinyl (Don't Talk To Me - a personal favorite, and Nothing Changes). The release date is set for march but you can already pre-order them. Urrayy!

Richport The Savior - Type Of Shit I'm On Vol.1 'Through Crookid Eyes'
"From the KPs vaults vol.48": today, Richport The Savior's Type Of Shit I'm On Vol.1!
Released in 2005 on Emmoworks, which is the label that released most of Zaire Black & June22's work (also Ras Ceylon's stuff and the Youth Internationals 12'' I've posted a while ago).
The album, entirely produced by Richport and June22, is pretty long (28 tracks!) but got a couple of nice tracks, despite the rawness of the sound quality.
There's a 7'' that includes two of the tracks in it also.
In another news Beetbak got that dope cassette reissue of the underrated masterpiece that is Inoe One's Master Relm out with a bonus track and additional liner notes, so it should be on top of your wishlist for the new year.
There's an unearthed The Nonce album planned to be released on Family Groove for 2018 and called "1990", no need to say much, my money is already saved for that one (check their instagram).
Snuf One aka Age, the guy responsible for the dope Raised by Seuss album reissue on his Untek Rec label recently discovered a batch of unsold stock of his 1997 "Simpleton" beat tape and it's pretty dope. Each artwork is unique apparently, and stock is hella limited.
That's it for the indie rap consumer minute.
RIP Ganjah K.
