I recently been able to rip my own vinyl records again.
So expect a couple of posts in the upcoming weeks with the result of that.
What I'll put here is not necessarily the greatest rap music ever but rather the hardest-to-find-on-digital-format.
More precisely, the records I own physically that I couldn't find on slsk or elsewhere.
Chances are, a good chunk of them were already ripped, but since I couldn't find them, I thought somebody else might look for them too.
There you go, part 1. A selection of various 7''.
You'll find this:
King Honey / Mr IP - Split 7''
Both artists from Philadelphia. I really like King Honey who had a couple of beats and releases on the defunct Sound Ink label. His track features 'Bad News' which really is Louis Logic.
On the flipside Mr IP, which seems to be one of the guy behind EDK (we'll go back to them in a later post).
Aki Kharmicel - Stop Is Not An Option 7''
San Diego MC/beatmaker also known as Kennuf Akbar, I really enjoy this guy's work. The production choice for this project seems to be more funky and a bit less experimental than for Kennuf. Both tracks are great.
Inna Attic Crookz - Number 7''
Another San Diego artist(s), released on Veks' Missing Children label, in the same vein than his own projects. Super well produced boom bap with great turntablism. A+
Edan / Bim One - Real Bad Promo 7''
From what I understood Real Bad is a clothing company who sometime put out promotional white label records. On one side you have a great cut up/remix rendition of Can's classic "Vitamin C' (no wonder there's no credit on the record) by personal favorite Edan; on the flip, a random dub track.
Knows - Art Imitates Life 7''
Did I tell you how I attempted to chase the Log Cabin DATs in a vague hope of a reissue? Knows was one of the ex crew member I contacted. He was going by the MC name Eson back in the Log Cabin era. Later was part of the great underrated US Pros (check their music). He had this instrumental 7'' off his latest solo project for sale, it wasn't even on discogs (of course, I added it on)...
Pariah - Maximum Reaction 7''
... And he also had this one 7'' for sale, on which he had a featuring spot. It was made by a friend of his, an MC from LA's Phorest Krukz. Of course I had to buy it (and, yes, added it to discogs as well).
Pluto Faction - Future Pop 7''
If you're familiar with Red Tide from Tampa, Florida, this is an off shoot of theirs. I think it was on the Sandbox Automatic mailorder back then, early 2000.
Zano - Ass Birth 7''
Zano Bathroom is an MC from Atlanta which I discovered on the Afrikan Sciences track "Circuitry Nursery" featured on DJ Raedawn (Crunc Tesla) '80 Minutes of Stank Stank' glitch-rap mix-cd. I loved this track and expected to see it on a vinyl, but it never happened. Zano released this 7'' which is ok, but nowhere near the other track. He also later released a project called rROcCKkeT 88 on DJ Sundae's Hollie Records.
Sole / Youth:Kill / Walter Gross - Split 7''
A three-way split 7'' of noise rap (?) by the talented Walter Gross, his Youth:Kill duo with K-The-I??? and Sole from Anticon. Nice one too if you're into that type of beats. Great collage artwork too, and some nice zine/baseball card/ random black and white photograph inside. The way it should be done.
Custom Blue - Under The Counter 7''
This track was featured on swedish producer Enigmatical - Antigravity Mix. Kind of reminiscing of the jazzy instrumental tracks made by Omid. B side isn't my cup of tea.
Also in this package: Deperissement Progressif 7'' (Ark and Mr Oizo secret project which is pure noise music, kind of unlistenable to be honest, but if you were wondering what was on it, here you go...), and I:Cube/DJ Gilb'R 'Versatile 99' 7'' which is a joke record, both artists doing an improvised campy synth track to celebrate 1999's new year's eve, and sent it as a promo gift to their friends. Only for hardcore Versatile completists with a sense of humor, let's say it's a private joke bonus.
To be continued..
Thanks a lot. Excellent rare uploads on here. Just stiumbled on your site through goldenerahiphopblog. JUst wondering do you upload lossless / flacs at all?
