Chocaholics - Brechtian Tactics

First mixtape my cousin (M. Lazerus Pit) and i ever release, it was 2001 or 2002 i think.
We met for a couple of weeks, blend our then-waay-smaller indie rap vinyl collections, spent hours finding the ideal fit, rehearse and record the whole thing on a mini-disk deck (remember mini-disc?). We only made a handful of those.

Joseph Young & Anonymous - Rossi Nights & Malibu Mornings

The only guy that dares post up here wanted some Joe Dub to enlighten his summer days. So here you go: a a tape from 2000 produced by Anonymous (aka Neosapien from Log Cabin aka Anti MC of Mush Records), a nice line-up of guest: Subtitle, Megabusive, Radio, Liferexall, Premo.. the whole Westcoast Workforce in action.
Beware though: the 2 first tracks are almost unlistenable due to tape fuck-ups, the rest is ok.

Foot Soljaaz - Hoes To Doe

LienIt took me forever to find the vinyl copy of this single... To celebrate this here's a rip of the cassingle, one track + instro only, but what a nice one...
Foot Soljaaz is Otherwize and Zig ESP, two mcs from LA, Project Blowed affiliates. Wize won the 97 Rap Olympics and is part of the highly underrated Blak Forest crew (You Are Now Entering The Blak Forest is a must have btw)... Enjoy.

Plankton - Abyss

Now let's enter the mystery of the westcoast indie rap/finnish connection through this dope mixtape.
I have no idea why but this particular indie rap scene always been very much followed in that particular country. Maybe a great way to escape the rough weather with a music who transpires california and its sunny skies, who knows... This connection has been existing through lots of different activists, lots of DJs playing these underground stuff (way before it even reach obscure french messageboards), finnish artists/bands inspired by this sounds (early Ceebrolistics for example, but there's too much of them to mention)... Tommi aka DJ Plankton, owner of the very-lofi-yet-absolutely-lovely Anti-Party Music label was one of those early days activist. He released several mixtapes, sometimes finnish-only stuff, and sometimes, like on this tape, a blend of those 2 worlds...
Let's face it: in 1998 not many people even heard of the Living Legends or Emanon outside Cali (me including of course!), so yeah this guy was one the pionneer i guess...
So here it is, Asop meets Portishead, meets Stanley Clarke, meets some local finnish artist that you never heard of (oh and what's up with EVS' very early Commonwealth group also?), all here on Abyss.
I owe the original, hence the artwork, but the rip is from another slsk dude. Still the same sound though!

I Ran Y - s/t

I Ran Y is Ian and Ray, 2/3 of the SF group Private School (the third one being JunDax which appears here too). This is their first tape, there's no year mentioned on it but it sounds like their very early work... This first version got absolute no info on it, but they re-issued it with a tracklist and credits, and different artwork.
Check out their recent album In Lue Of The Greater Nowhere if you can.

DJ Klock - Direction Of Rainbow (Live Mix In New York)

This is a live mix from 2004, the artwork is from a member of the Barnstormers.
Dj Klock was a one-of-a-kind turntablist, a truly original artist. He released a couple of albums / eps which i could hardly describe... He had this sort of very abstract, minimal sound. That tape is the perfect example of a (great) japanese dj at work: abstract hip hop blends with far out electronica, it's rare when a guy comes with this sort of tracklist and play a set like that in front of an audience.. it takes some balls!
He was one of the few artist i distributed from my label and it was a pleasure working with him... His tapes were kind of challenging and as a dj, he was the kind of guy that makes you think about your own stuff... what do you have to say, how much fresh things you offer to the listener and what makes the difference between you and the thousands other dudes with turntables.
He passed away in 2007. Check his other music if you can, it's worth it.

Pseudzero - Heavenly Reverse (A Bigg Jus Mix)

I found this thing a few months ago. It's a mix i started in 2005-2006 i think but never properly finished. It's 25 minutes long and listenable though, even if it's obviously not the type of hyper technical mix right here... I did it as part of a project for a label that was planning to release something by him, but shit got cancelled at some point and i sat with my unfinished (and now useless) mix. The recent Co-Flow show in London had me giving it a couple of more spins though... Hope you'll enjoy too.

Lexicon - More / Sundays

Not the most interesting one i admit, but i put it for historic value... This might be the very first Lexicon promo tape, probably around 98... Those 2 tracks never appeared on any albums or 12", there's the mention of Library Crew on the cover (an old collective build around Subtitle for what i know), and surprise, an uncredited Mr Marks himself appears on the bonus track called "Wizardy" which is really "More" with... him.
One of the Lex guy sounds a lot like LMNO too...
(PS- This guy IS actually LMNO... The tape is from 98 and about 20 of those exist. Thanks to Damien/Laitdbac and the Lexicon guys for the tip.)

Jus 1.0 - Audio Aesthetics

Jus 1.0 is a beatmaker from Hawaï, from the Lightsleepers collective I think.
He did an album back in the days with Neila as "Lady Day & The Pres", this tape is probably from the same era... Then he pretty much disappeared from the radar.
There's some interesting featuring on there, Topic from Painkillers, JunDax from Private School, and even some group called Kilowattz (related to SDs' Kilowattz? No idea)...

Sircut - Blending & Bending

This one's a mixtape by a german DJ from the Offbeaters collective. I don't know much about them other than they're somewhat related to Vinylkingz/Subversiv*Rec.
Dark and industrial mood overall, lots of Anticon-related stuff, which is rare enough on this format. There's no tracklist on the jacket but I knew most of the stuff here... If you know about the missing tracks hit the comment section though.

A one-sided cassette EP from an early Tommy V. I chose it because i never saw it anywhere, so I guess this one's for the hardcore la2thebay collector nerds... And also, i love TV and I think he's way underrated.
There's 3 tracks + 1 instru, one is TV rapping with what seems to be his little cousins, and a long posse cut starring Awol One about controlling your emotions.

Log Cabin / Universouls - LA Experimental / Westcoast Underground

2017 Edit:
I just changed the link to a new, better sounding rip of my cassette. Still not thee perfect sound, there's still hiss background, but this time the rip is much louder. 320kbps mp3.

Original Post:
I bought this one with a batch of other LL tapes a few years ago on ebay. There's no tracklist on it.
Prior to that, all i knew was the bootleg floating on slsk with varying tracklists and track names.
Recently, finnish homie/collector Kaliyuga Pro gave me a tracklist Anti MC (Neosapien back then) posted on a msg board years ago, which led me to these facts: a. it matched my tape b. the slsk bootlegs were wrong versions and more of a track collection (for instance Submental is not a Log Cabin track but a Miscellaneous Minds one, an early Eligh/Scarub/Savant Young group, and therefore not featured on my tape) c. that actual tape compiled 2 albums: LA Experimental by Log Cabin, then Westcoast Underground by Universouls (Radio, Malik, Sahga & Tom Slikk). The second one is entirely produced by Elusive.
A last thing: the sound of my rip isn't the best one unfortunately... But at least it's the real deal.
